The loops modelling the SystemVerilog scheduling regions are no longer
generated. They now live in 'VerilatedEvalLoop' in the runtime library.
The generated model holds one as a member, passing itself to it, and
exposes each evaluation entry point to it as a pure virtual method on
VerilatedModel. The model's 'eval' and 'eval_step' remain the top level
entry points, and are backward compatible.
V3Sched no longer emits '_eval' or '_eval_settle', etc.. Instead every
evaluation entry point called from the runtime is enumerated by 'VEval',
Scheduling creates all entry points, for all scheduling regions, even if
they are empty, and the runtime eval loop calls everything
unconditionally. If regions are empty, this is simply a call to an empty
function. This will hurt performance on very small models, but should
not be noticeable on anything meaningful, so it is likely best to keep
to reduce complexity.
A scheduling entry points evaluate a single iteration and returns
whether it did any work, they are effectively the previous
`_eval_phase_*` functions.
AstMTaskBody is somewhat redundant and is problematic for #6280. We used
to wrap all MTasks in a CFunc before emit anyway. Now we create that
CFunc when we create the ExecMTask in V3OrderParallel, and subsequently
use the CFunc to represent the contents of the MTask. Final output and
optimizations are the same, but internals are simplified to move
towards #6280.
No functional change.
Rewrote V3LifePost to not depend on having AstAssignPre and
AstAssignPost types, but work with generic AstNodeAssign. There is an
extra flag in AstVarScope to denote it's part of an NBA and should be
considered.
Step towards #6280.
There is no strong need to re-map LogicMTask IDs and it just adds extra
processing. Instead we just allocate a separate set of ExecMTask IDs as
they are created, which can also be used as the unique profiling ID as
well. The only effect on the output of this is the change in mtask IDs
emitted, which was fairly arbitrary to begin with.
- Rename `--dump-treei` option to `--dumpi-tree`, which itself is now a
special case of `--dumpi-<tag>` where tag can be a magic word, or a
filename
- Control dumping via static `dump*()` functions, analogous to `debug()`
- Make dumping independent of the value of `debug()` (so dumping always
works even without the debug flag)
- Add separate `--dumpi-graph` for dumping V3Graphs, which is again a
special case of `--dumpi-<tag>`
- Alias `--dump-<tag>` to `--dumpi-<tag> 3` as before
This is a major re-design of the way code is scheduled in Verilator,
with the goal of properly supporting the Active and NBA regions of the
SystemVerilog scheduling model, as defined in IEEE 1800-2017 chapter 4.
With this change, all internally generated clocks should simulate
correctly, and there should be no more need for the `clock_enable` and
`clocker` attributes for correctness in the absence of Verilator
generated library models (`--lib-create`).
Details of the new scheduling model and algorithm are provided in
docs/internals.rst.
